On 26 July 1991 Terminal 2 opened at Birmingham International Airport, which doubled the airport's capacity. This second terminal was designed for the use of British Airways and its partners as part of a hub and spoke system whereby aircraft would arrive from domestic and European destinations and allowed easy transfers so that passengers could connect to a range of European destinations.
